DAVID WINDSOR JOSEPH PETRIE It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David on Monday, June 1, 2009 at the age of 72. Left to cherish David's memory is his wife of 50 years, Isabel, whom he loved dearly; his son Stephen, and daughters Diana and Heather Ironside (Bruce) as well as his honourary children Kelli and Gary Clarke; his grandchildren Alexis, Briann and Lindsay and honourary grandchildren Jennifer and Devin Clarke. He is also survived by his sister Gladys Cheasley (Jack). Sadly, David was predeceased by his brother Bill and sister Mary Briscoe (Jack). The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and support staff at the St. Boniface Hospital for all their efforts and care over the last few years. A celebration of David's life will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at the Neelin Cemetery in Neelin, Manitoba with a gathering of friends to follow at the Little Shack in Neelin. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Canadian Kidney Foundation, the Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of their choice. David loved to visit with friends and family and tell stories of his life experiences, of which he had many. David grew up in the Pembina Valley and loved to relive the adventures of growing up in the country. He spent seven years in the navy and 27 as a Police Officer providing him with a great amount of material for discussion, both educational as well as entertaining. Fortunately, David retired in 1987 and was able to spend a number of years doing the things he enjoyed most, spending time out at the farm fishing, hunting, helping with the farming and generally visiting with family and friends. In town his time was devoted to his family, especially his granddaughters as well as his city friends . His warm, sincere personality allowed for his friendships to be true and strong, enriching the lives of those around him. David/Dad, your smiles and stories will be greatly missed, but forever remembered. We have been blessed by having you in our lives.
